Trusting Mozy

Posted by Payne on August 22nd, 2010

Tried out Mozy.    Did not like that when exiting the program it refused to quit.   When running the un-install, I was informed that Mozy will keep the files on its servers.    eeeeeu!

Brush with fame — Lee Strobel

Posted by Payne on December 14th, 2009

Yesterday, we went to CCC to see Lee Strobel give his speech the Case for Christmas.   Before the service, we stood in line for autographs.  When I asked Lee Strobel what he thought of the book Evangelism Without Additives, he said he had not heard of it.

I wonder how CCC’s and Lee Strobel’s thoughts on evangelism compare with Jim Henderson‘s ideas described in his book Evangelism Without Additives.

2010 = best year yet

Posted by Payne on December 12th, 2009

I’m really looking forward to 2010.   Planning to make it the best year yet.

So much so, while in Denver last month, I purchased my 2010 planner.    A Quo vadis brand daily journal.   It’s nice that Quo vadis is a Latin phrase meaning “Where are you going?”

gpg with large files

Posted by Payne on December 7th, 2009

http://www.mail-archive.com/gnupg-users@gnupg.org/msg03555.html says

gpg < bigfile.pgp > bigfile

Odd that this trick needs to be used when dealing with large files.

Scala

Posted by Payne on July 18th, 2009

All the buzz about Scala in the popular press has gotten my attention. Hopefully, Scala will not disappoint.

From InfoQ: Roundup: Scala as the long term replacement for Java

“Scala has been receiving much attention lately as a possible candidate to replace Java in the future. James Strachan creator of Groovy advocates in favor of Scala as James Gosling, creator of Java and Charles Nutter JRuby Core Developer, have done in the past.”

Things I’m looking through include:

  1. Learning Scala
  2. Programming Scala from Ora.com seems to be online in HTML for free (for now)
  3. Ted Neward’s Busy Developers Guide to Scala series on Developerworks
  4. Scala By Example
  5. Scala on Google App Engine

I’m considering buying the book on Scala — Programming in Scala
